On our way to climbing Volcán de Pacaya, which you can read about and see photos of here, we drove along winding roads flanked by lush coffee plantations. At one point, however, the scenery changed and our tour guide Victorr pulled the shuttle bus in to the side of the road for us to get out and take a look at the fields of sugar cane.
The fields were stunning, gently swaying in the breeze. Then I noticed some rather interesting structures in the nearby trees.
They were bees’ nests encircling the sugar cane fields. When I mentioned them to Victorr, he laughed and said “Let me show you a really big nest”. The following nest was about the same height as me – I took a photo and then got out of there pronto. I have no desire to encounter that many bees.

That first picture is sheer elegance
It was stunning to see those fields swaying in the breeze. The incandescences caught the light and shimmered like spun silk! xxx
