Jungle flora

Leaving the Guatemalan Highlands in the south behind me, I ventured north to Tikal, to explore the ancient Mayan ruins and see the flora and fauna in the depths of the jungle.

I was lucky enough to witness the most stunning sunset from the top of the highest Mayan pyramid in Tikal, followed by a spectacular full moon rising – see the story and photos here – and the next morning rose to view a breathtaking, misty dawn over the jungle – see here. Along with the ruins of an ancient Mayan city, Tikal is home to a rich variety of plant life – here are a few of the lovely plants that caught my eye along the way.
