Reflections

I visited Brooklyn Botanic Gardens today – such an exquisite place – and was enchanted by the water lilies floating serenely on the glassy surfaces of the ponds, casting the loveliest of reflections.

As there was no official Weekly Photo Challenge this week, this is for the Unofficial Weekly Photo Challenge – Reflections on Where’s my backpack? (my travel blog). There’s been a ton of great entries. Follow the link and share your own reflections. The more the merrier!

    1. They really are ethereal, aren’t they? I can’t help but enter a state of zen watching them drift about on the water’s surface. xx

      1. there is a sense of ONEness truly… when you look at em… sometimes telling you that “ALL IS COMPLETE” by the VERY ACT of CREATION!! Purely inspirational!!

  1. They’re beautiful Ailsa. The white is especially dramatic, don’t you think, with that dark water. What a tough species they are, growing from the tropics to winter snow New York. And how early they are! Were they in a greenhouse or out in the open?

    1. They were right out in the open, floating about in ponds – having said that, it’s been an incredibly mild winter here in New York – we’ve barely seen snow at all this year. I suspect they were kept under cover during colder weather and were put out recently. It was pretty warm when I was there, so I’m sure they were very happy.

      1. Ah, mild winter, warm spring might account for them flowering so early. I wonder if they’re taken into greenhouses in the winter? Maybe not. I’ll have to read up about it. Thanks for the background.
All the photos I’ve seen of the Brooklyn Gardens are amazing – terrible I’ve never ventured over to see. Oh well, next time … πŸ™‚

      2. It was my first time there, and I was really impressed. What’s even better is that it’s half the price of the New York Botanic Gardens. I’m going to venture out to the Queens Botanic Gardens today to see how they compare.

    1. They really are the most exquisite creations, aren’t they? I am always put in mind of ballerinas when I see them drifting about in all their finery. πŸ™‚

    1. So glad you liked my photos, I just read your Mother’s Day post, it’s beautiful, very moving, your mom is lucky to have a son like you! Hope you join in the photo challenge on my Where’s my backpack? blog. xoxo Ailsa

      1. thank you! But I’m a daughter πŸ™‚ … Mother to three teenage boys, wife to an amazing husband. Thanks for visiting my blog and answering about the weekly photo challenge!

      2. Harr, that’ll teach me not to read the ‘about’ section. Now the ‘allthingsboys’ makes sense, you’ve got a house full of them. That’s a full time job, and then some. xxx

  2. Thank-you for the beautiful flowers, dear daughter. Thoroughly enjoyed Mothers’ Day – my second of the year! x x

    1. You’re welcome, mum! I still haven’t figured out why the US and Europe have different dates for Mothers’ Day but hey, two days are better than one, right? xoxo

      1. Happiness is:- a daughter like you – with your beautiful appreciation of Mother Nature….xoxo

    1. Thanks Heather, I just saw your photo of the shadows of you and your mom, your comment made me laugh out loud, I can totally relate πŸ™‚

      1. Sorry it took me so long to respond, things have been a little hectic over on my travel blog – hectic in a good way πŸ™‚ I am in love with your list of food holidays. How on earth did you find out about them? I intend to celebrate National Chocolate Γ‰clair Day to the fullest! πŸ˜‰

      2. No worries about response time … Life seems to have a way of getting in the the way of our blogging, I like to say πŸ™‚

For the food holidays, there are tons of websites that only list holidays. Some are official and some are not so I had to choose a resource to use that suited my needs. Sometimes, I miss one here or there but I try to be accurate.

Please feel free to visit any time πŸ™‚
